Test blasting on a GRP hull

We employ a meticulous process to ensure the highest quality paint job on motor yachts. Prior to commencing a full paint job on a 30-meter yacht, our skilled yard team performs blasting tests using a high-pressure blasting machine and aluminum silicate (coal slag) as the selected blasting abrasive.
The purpose of these blasting tests is twofold. Firstly, they allow us to evaluate the condition of the hull, identifying any surface irregularities, old paint layers, or corrosion that may impact the overall finish. Secondly, the blasting tests enable us to achieve optimal surface preparation by effectively removing these imperfections, resulting in a clean and properly primed hull.
By utilizing a high-pressure blasting machine, we ensure a thorough and efficient process. The abrasive chosen, aluminum silicate (coal slag), offers excellent performance in removing stubborn coatings, rust, and other contaminants, while still being gentle enough to avoid damage to the yacht’s underlying structure.
Our decision to use aluminum silicate (coal slag) as the blasting abrasive is based on its proven effectiveness in the marine industry. Its abrasive properties facilitate the removal of surface layers without compromising the integrity of the hull. This ensures that the subsequent paint application adheres firmly and provides long-lasting protection.
When it comes to sandblasting, we understand that different types of hulls require tailored approaches.
Our expert team conducts thorough studies to determine the optimal sandblasting pressure and abrasive material based on the specific purpose and desired treatment outcome. Factors such as the hull material, surface condition, and treatment requirements are taken into account to determine the most suitable approach.
Through our rigorous blasting tests using a high-pressure blasting machine and aluminum silicate (coal slag), we achieve a pristine hull surface that serves as a foundation for an impeccable paint job.
